Tulip Scorned
21st March 2006

As I walked along the pain-struck road
I stumbled across a mound. Growed
There a tulip, I slashed it down-
It grew no more. It was killed. With no frown
I trod it into the ground. Ne’er again a flower
So sweet, will I allow to purge my power.
With scorn and anger I travelled on,
Nothing to bear but the heat of the sun.
A figure stepped into my path.
I reeled back in disgust – there a tulip lay upon his chest.
With fury, out my fist flew,
I met its stem, and then I knew
No man could stop me. I turned anew
And saw a bird spread wings and I grew
To love the world and all its nature.
I loved all earth – learnt not to hate her.

By Jack Stevenson
A poem I wrote a while ago, inspired by a walk along a country lane...
